Subject of the commemorative coin:
 Special 2 euro coin in honor of 500 years of the Swiss Guard.

 Description of the design:
 The coin shows a Swiss Guard taking the oath of allegiance to the Pope. The inscription “GUARDIA SVIZZERA PONTIFICIA” can be read in a semi-circle around the guard. The name of the issuing country “CITTÀ DEL VATICANO” is shown below the flag. On the left, above the signature of the engraver “O. ROSSI” along the flagpole, is the year “1506”. On the right, above the mint mark “R”, is the year “2006”. The twelve stars of the European Union are depicted along the outer ring of the coin.
