Spain 2012: Burgos Cathedral

Description:
The inner part of the coin depicts the Cathedral of Burgos, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, famous for its vast size and unique architecture. Construction of the cathedral began in 1221 and it was already in use for services nine years later, although work continued intermittently until 1567. The church is largely built in the French Gothic style, with Renaissance influences from the 15th and 16th centuries. The name of the issuing country, ESPAÑA, and the year 2012 appear above the image on the left and right, respectively. The mint mark (an M with a crown) appears on the right. The 12 stars of the European Union are depicted around the outer ring of the coin.
