Subject of the commemorative coin:
100th anniversary of the first blood transfusion in Slovakia
Description:
The coin features an equilateral cross as an internationally recognised symbol of medical aid, hope and humanity. Each arm depicts one of the four blood groups: A, B, O and AB. Two more equilateral crosses are located inside the cross, with a drop of blood in the centre of the image. Around the central cross, eight test tubes are located at equal distances, each with a stamp impression of a stylised drop of blood. A drop of blood is embossed between the tubes. To the right of the lower tube are the stylised initials “MP”, which refer to the designer of the national side Mária Poldaufová; to the left is the mint mark of the Kremnica Mint (Mincovňa Kremnica), consisting of the letters “MK” between two dies. The edge of the inner part of the coin is largely taken up by the inscription “PRVÁ TRANSFÚZIA KRVI 1923 – 2023” (“First Blood Transfusion”). The name of the issuing country “SLOVENSKO” is at the bottom of the edge, separated from the inscription by a dot on each side. The outer ring of the coin features the twelve stars of the European flag.
