Subject of the commemorative coin:
20th Anniversary of November 17, 1989 (Day of Struggle for Freedom and Democracy)

Description:
The inner part of the coin shows a stylised clock made up of a number of keys. This refers to the demonstration of 17 November 1989. On that day, residents walked through the streets with jingling bunches of keys. It was the beginning of the so-called Velvet Revolution. Below the clock, the designer's mark and that of the Slovak Mint (Mincovna Kremnica) are depicted on the right. The design is surrounded by the inscription "17 NOVEMBER SLOBODA — DEMOKRACIA" (freedom and democracy) with the dates "1989-2009" at the top and "SLOVENSKO", the designation of the issuing country, at the bottom. The coin's outer ring features the twelve stars of the European flag. The design was created by Pavel Károly.
