Description:
The design features a visual composition based on the well-known cross, the symbol of the organisation, repeated several times to represent the expansion of the humanitarian movement both in Portugal and abroad. The outline of a hand in the background symbolises the different types of aid that the organisation has provided to the people, mostly medical aid, but also, among others: cooperation, construction and support aid. On the left, in a semi-circular form, the inscription ‘CRUZ VERMELHA PORTUGUESA’. At the top, the coat of arms and the name of the issuing country ‘PORTUGAL’ and at the bottom the years ‘1865’ and ‘2015’. The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European flag.
