Subject of the commemorative coin:
 500 years of Erasmus' book, the Praise of Folly or Laus Stultitiae

 Description of the design:
 The inner part of the coin shows Erasmus writing his book, as well as the effigy of Queen Beatrix. Between these two images is the vertical inscription “Beatrix Koningin der Nederlanden”, followed by the year “2011”, the mint master’s mark and the mint mark. The coin’s outer ring features the twelve stars of the European Union flag.
