Description of the design:
The coin is the last in a series of five commemorating milestones in Malta’s constitutional history. Following constitutional changes approved by a large majority of the Maltese Parliament, Malta became a republic on 13 December 1974. The design depicts a marble plaque on the façade of the Presidential Palace in Valletta commemorating Malta’s transition from monarchy to republic. At the top right, in semi-circle, is the inscription ‘MALTA — Republic 1974’. At the bottom, the year ‘2015’. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
