 Description of the design:
 The design is by Maltese artist Gianni Bonnici and shows an exuberant crowd with the Governor's Palace in Valletta in the background. The inner part of the coin features the inscription "MALTA — Majority representation 1887" in semi-circle at the top. The year "2012" is at the bottom. The coin's outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
