Subject of the commemorative coin:
 200th anniversary of the founding of Ghent University

 Description of the design:
 The inner part of the coin features the logo of Ghent University, with the dates 1817-2017 underneath. This is surrounded by the inscription 200 JAAR UNIVERSITEIT GENT — 200 YEARS GHENT UNIVERSITY and the country designation “BE”. The mint mark of Brussels, a helmeted head of the archangel Michael, and the mint master’s mark, the coat of arms of the municipality of Herzele, are located to the right and left of the country designation respectively. The coin’s outer ring depicts the twelve stars of the European flag.
