Description:
The design shows in the foreground a portrait of Rita Levi-Montalcini in half profile, inspired by the photographs of Manuela Fabbri. In the background is a microscope based on a medal designed by the renowned scientist’s brother, Gino Levi-Montalcini. The base of the microscope is horseshoe-shaped, commemorating her success as a 1986 Nobel Prize winner for Medicine. At the bottom is “RITA LEVI-MONTALCINI” in an arc, on the left “RI” the acronym for Italy and “R” for the Mint of Rome, below “2024”, the year of issue, and on the right “SP”, the initials of the designer Silvia Petrassi. The coin’s outer ring features the twelve stars of the European flag.
