 450th Birthday of Galileo Galilei

 Description of the design:
 The image shows the head of Galileo Galilei as it appears in the painting by Justus Sustermans from 1636 (Florence, Galleria degli Uffizi). Around it at the top is the inscription “GALILEO GALILEI”. To the right of it are the letter R (monogram of the Roman Mint), an astronomical telescope and “CM” (monogram of the designer, Claudia Momoni); to the left of it, overlapping, are the letters “RI”, the monogram of the Italian Republic. In the exergue is the inscription 1564-2014. The coin’s outer ring features the twelve stars of the European flag.
