Subject of the commemorative coin:
Treaty of Rome

Description of the design:
The coin shows the Treaty document signed by the six founding countries against a background reminiscent of the paving of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome (designed by Michelangelo), where the Treaty was signed on 25 March 1957. The inscriptions Treaty of Rome 50 years, EUROPA and the name of the issuing country are in the national language(s) of the euro area or in Latin (Belgian edition). The inscriptions therefore vary from one country to another, but the image is the same. The Luxembourg coin also features a hologram of the Grand Duke, as a result of national laws stipulating that each coin must feature an effigy of the current Grand Duke.
