Description of the design:
The design is a replica of an ancient coin from the Thracian city of Abdera, depicting a griffin. The inner side features in Greek “100 YEARS SINCE THE UNION OF THRACE WITH GREECE” and “HELLENIC REPUBLIC”, as well as the year of issue “2020” and a palmette (the mint mark of the Greek Mint). The monogram of the designer (George Stamatopoulos) is also visible on the left. The region of Thrace, located in the far northeast of the country, was united with Greece after the end of World War I. The outer ring of the coin features the twelve stars of the European flag.
