Description:
The coin features a section of Basilica B and linear motifs inspired by a border pattern of an ancient Greek mosaic recovered from the site. The words “ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE OF PHILIPPI” and “HELLENIC REPUBLIC” (in Greek) are inscribed along the edge of the inner part. The year of issuance, “2017”, and a palmette (the mint mark of the Greek Mint) are also inscribed in the background at the right. The monogram of the artist (George Stamatopoulos) is depicted at the bottom left. The coin’s outer ring features the 12 stars of the European flag.
