Description of the design:
The coin, designed by Yves Sampo of Monnaie de Paris, Stefanie Lindner of the Berlin State Mint, Alina Hoyer (Berlin) and Sneschana Russewa-Hoyer (Berlin), features stylised portraits of the signatories of the Élysée Treaty (then Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Konrad Adenauer and former President of the French Republic Charles de Gaulle), their signatures on either side of the words "50 ANS JAHRE” and the year "2013” in the centre. The words "TRAITÉ DE L'ÉLYSÉE” and "ÉLYSÉE-VERTRAG” appear at the top and bottom centre of the inner part of the coin respectively. The inner right edge, below the portrait of Adenauer, also features the "fleurette" (the engraving workshop mark) and the letters "RF" in the inner part, indicating the issuing country, while the mint mark is located on the inner left edge, below the portrait of De Gaulle. The coin's outer ring features the twelve stars of the European Union.
