Subject of the commemorative coin:

Bavaria

Description:
The commemorative coin “Bayern” was designed by Erich Ott and shows the best-known view of Neuschwanstein Castle. The coin depicts the view from the east that visitors see on their way up to the castle, with the gatehouse in the foreground and the medieval-style large and small castle towers behind it. The panoramic mountain behind the castle is well depicted, as is the location of the castle on a steep rock with a view of the romantic Pöllat Gorge. The name “BAYERN” connects the depicted building “Neuschwanstein Castle” with the state of Bavaria. The mint mark of the respective mint (A, D, F, G or J) is located on the right in the inner part of the coin and the initials of the designer are located on the left, also in the inner part of the coin. The coin’s outer ring features the twelve stars of the European Union, with a D at the top and 2012 at the bottom for the country and year of issuance respectively.
