 Paphos 2017 – European Capital of Culture

 Description of the design:
 The design features the ancient "Odeon" of Paphos, a small amphitheatre dating back to the 2nd century AD. Today it is used for musical performances during the summer months and is the venue for a number of events within the "Paphos 2017 – European Capital of Culture" programme. The name of the issuing country, "ΚΥΠΡΟΣ KIBRIS" and the phrase "Πάφος 2017 – Πολιτιστική πρωτεύουσα Ευρώπης" (i.e. Paphos 2017 – European Capital of Culture) are inscribed in the inner part of the national side of the coin. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
